The Mayor of Els Poblets Jaime Ivars has received the preliminary results of
Municipal Energy Audit commissioned at the end of 2011 and executed by the
municipal technician Salvador Rovira, with the objective of implementing
effective measures of saving and reduction in expenditure framed in the global
targets of the Covenant of Mayors.
Due to the notable findings of the first 8
months of the Audit an exhaustive review of all municipal facilities has allowed
us to meet and optimize our operations, commented the Mayor. For example, in public lighting, an important
reduction in the consumption of electricity, more than 20%, has been obtained,
despite the continuous increases in tariffs that have been implemented. Also we have connected to the municipal
transformer the Auditorium, Sports Centre, School and public lighting in the
area with a reduction in costs of 33% with regard to 2011.
Just these two actions, carried out by the
municipal workers, has reduced costs by more than €20,000 in the first eight
months of action.
Other actions encouraged by the audit results
are the performance in the covered pool, with the objective to maximise its
energy efficiency, thanks to a new impulsion system and the improvement of the
solar system, the replacement of public lighting with LEDs, upgrading facilities
or the rescheduling of municipal consumption for operation at minimum
cost.
